Announcing the Back-to-School Blogathon!

From kindergarten to college, from St. Trinian’s to Rydell High, schools and classrooms have provided the background for multitudinous films. Dedicated teachers, evil vice principals, nerds, mean girls, precocious children, slackers, geniuses, jocks, and misfits have populated films throughout the history of the medium.

On September 2-5, it’s time to go Back To School!!!

BLOGATHON RULES:

1. Feel free to write about any topic relating to school and the movies.  The choice is yours. As long as the topic relates to school and film (from any era), it’s more than welcome.

2. Because there are so many potential topics and films, no duplicates for this blogathon.

3. To express your interest in participating in the blogathon, leave a comment on my blog, along with the name and URL of your blog, and the subject you wish to cover, or you can always register by email at: robinpruter@gmail.com. For those of you who wish to register by email, please be sure to include the name and URL of your blog, and the topic you wish to cover. What a hoot! I gotta think about this one for a while…

  9. Hey Robin. Thanks for the invite. I would like to write about “Goodbye Mr. Chips” ( 1939 ) if that’s ok? I seen it on the big screen last year at our favorite art deco old movie house.

  10. Hi, I’d love to participate but I have no idea yet what to prepare with. May I ask you which film the fourth banner is from? It might give me a hint 🙂

    • The fourth banner is the 1939 Goodbye, Mr. Chips. That one has already been selected. But there is still the 1969 remake with Peter O’Toole. Some other movies that might inspire you are (I’m not going to italicize the titles because it will take too long) Good Morning Miss Dove with Jennifer Jones, The Happy Years with Dean Stockwell, Lean on Me, Cooley High, To Sir with Love, Up the Down Staircase, The Children’s Hour, These Three, High School Confidential, Because They’re Young, The Explosive Generation, Stand and Deliver, Dangerous Minds, Fire with Fire, Heaven Help Us, Fraternity Row, Revenge of the Nerds, Real Genius, Charlie Bartlett, The Faculty, Elephant, Disturbing Behavior, Grease, Class of 1984, Carrie, Higher Education, School Daze, Platinum High School, High School Hellcats, The Strange One, Never Been Kissed, Hiding Out. There are a lot more, but those are off the top of my head.

      • Thank you so much for creating this exhaustive list, it was really kind of you to put it together! I’m sorry, but in the end I chose a movie that’s not on your list; it’s titled Les Choristes, a French movie from 2004. I’m looking forward to this blogathon, though I’m glad there’s a summer holiday before it starts 🙂

  11. Oh this is great! Gotta do Massacre At Central High.
    https://blogferatu.com/

  12. Great idea for a blogathon. I’m a teacher who stopped to be a stay at home mom and am now getting back into the classroom, so school movies I am a sucker for!!! Please put me down for Three Cheers for Miss Bishop, made in 1941, from a popular book. Part look at a dedicated teacher, part soap opera. My blog is portraitsbyjenni@wordpress.com

  13. I was a schoolboy in the 70’s. Found a lot to remember watching Dazed and Confused. I’ll take that one if it’s still available.

  14. Hey Robin, I’d like to write about The Browning Version 🙂

    https://thewonderfulworldofcinema.wordpress.com

  15. Love your pics Robin – can I join your Blogathon with my Grease 2 review??

  16. Hello, I dropped a comment under the list you created for me, which you may not have noticed, so I decided I’d better write again 🙂 My choice is “Les Choristes”, a French movie from 2004. See you in September 🙂

  17. Not sure if you got my message, can I join this blogathon with a Grease 2 review, https://weegiemidget.wordpress.com/ x

  18. Hi! I’ll give this one a try with HERE COME THE CO-EDS (1945) starring Abbott and Costello if you approve. 🙂

  19. Fun idea! I’ll take Teacher’s Pet (1958) for loveletterstooldhollywood.blogspot.com, please!

  20. Hi…sounds like fun – has nobody claimed the original Grease yet? If not, could I tackle that one please?

  21. Hi Robin,
    this sounds like fun.
Can you put me down for The House on Sorority Row please

    G

  22. Hello again! I was trying to decide whether or not to sign up for this blogathon as well, and then I realized that it fits perfectly into my schedule! I’d love to write about To Sir, With Love (1967) if that’s alright. Sidney Poitier is one of my favorite actors and this is probably the biggest film of his that I haven’t seen. Thanks again!

  23. Hi, I would love to write about Legally Blonde.

My blog is Moon in Gemini: https://debravega.wordpress.com/

  24. Please put me down for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Thanks!

  25. Hi! Great blogathon idea 🙂 Please may I do an entry about AU REVOIR LES ENFANTS?

  26. Hello, I’d like to write about Good News (1947) for Old Hollywood Films if that one isn’t taken.

  27. Hi! I’d love to write about Au Revoir Les Enfants, if that’s OK?
(I posted this a few days ago but it seems not to be showing…)

  28. This might be a bit of a stretch, but may I cover Laurel & Hardy’s A CHUMP AT OXFORD?

  29. I regret that personal and professional matters have coalesced to make it impossible for me to contribute to the blogathon. Apologies.

  30. Hi, here’s a link to my Grease 2 review, hope all goes well with your blogathon xx https://weegiemidget.wordpress.com/guilty-pleasures/grease-two/
